Inside the Spring Issue of BHA’s Backcountry Journal

The newest issue of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers’ magazine is available today

MISSOULA, Mont. – The spring issue of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers’ quarterly magazine, Backcountry Journal, is showing up in mailboxes across the continent right now. Review BHA’s conservation priorities in 2021 and beyond, reminisce with us about past adventures and dream of adventures to come with this great issue.

BHA’s Priority Landscapes: BHA Conservation Director John Gale reminds us of the importance of wild places, stirring our emotions with reflections from some of the greatest conservation authors of the past. Along the way, he takes a more in depth look at three of BHA’s priority landscapes across North America and legislative goals for 2021 and beyond.

Eat Wild, Live Free & Conserve: World-renowned conservationist Shane Mahoney returns to the pages of Backcountry Journal with a deep dive into the Wild Harvest Initiative. Shane answers all the important questions concerning the importance of wild harvest, not only on a personal level but also on economic and societal levels, and we learn how the Wild Harvest Initiative aims to change the conversation around hunting, fishing and foraging.

Spring’s Silver Linings: BHA member Cayla Bendel reflects on having the opportunity to escape a pandemic, hunt turkeys and grow as a person, all thanks to one thing: public lands. Her story serves as a great reminder of how lucky we are.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving: BHA member Jon Osborn takes us back to our childhoods with a story of the best gift he ever received: “That freedom to explore, to succeed – and yes, even to fail – was the ultimate present, the gift that kept on giving.” This one is sure to evoke memories for you, too.

And More: Learn how to make venison French onion soup from Jenny Nguyen-Wheatley. Read about the great conservation work from BHA chapters, fishing brook trout in Maine and redfish in the Louisiana marsh … and plenty more.

Backcountry Journal is distributed to BHA members, elected officials and land management agencies. It also is available in a digital flipbook edition, available to members on the BHA website. Join BHA today to get your copy.
