UCOGEAR 6 Piece Mess Kit Review

The UCO 6 piece mess kit is a complete system to cover all your camping dish needs. This kit is made from an ultra-durable polypropylene & TPE.  The good news about this mess kit is that it is sealed enough that when you use it, you can toss it into your pack and clean it when you get to a stream.  It does have a pretty solid seal though I would not seal liquids in the kit as it will most likely leak bouncing around your pack. However I would have no problem putting in sandwiches, solids or dry goods into the mess kit as I pack in to the backcountry.  I often throw in dried ramen or dried oatmeal and have it in the kit ready to go and all I have to do is break out my Jetboil, make my food and pour it back into my mess kit.

The six pieces in this kit include a plate/lid, bowl, the Switch Spork, the tether and the camp cup.  I often find that I use the camp cup for measuring.  I know up to the first line is right close to 2/3 of a cup and the entire camp cup is 1.5 cups which helps me know how much water to put into the Jetboil when I am making ramen or oatmeal or putting together a freeze dried meal.

This kit works together extremely well.  The knife on the Switch Spork works well enough to cut steak in a pinch and the bowl can hold an entire package of Ramen or a freeze dried meal or 2 cups of oatmeal so I am a happy camper.  The entire kit weighs less than a pound which is not a problem for me because I am not an ultralight packer.  The kit is microwaveable which is good if you are in a hotel room, and it is dishwasher safe if you need to sanitize it after a camping trip.  We got our kits via Amazon.
